First, once you get to the land of kangaroos, your priority will have to be to improve your English level as much as possible to achieve your goals,  whatever they are. There are many English language courses among which you can choose according to your previous level: from Beginner (for those starting from zero or almost) up to Advanced (for those who already have an excellent level and intends to perfect it). Usually the average duration of these courses is 12 weeks. There are also several tests to evaluate and certify your level of English: IELTS, Cambridge Exam and TOEFL. Remember in this regard that you need a visa to study in Australia. Working Holiday Visa is an option that will allow you to study and follow a course for 3 months and work in the meantime for up to a year. Generally, however, to embark on a real study path, the Australian government provides a special visa or the Student Visa, which will allow you to stay in Australia for the entire duration of the course, as well as to work part-time. You can choose the course that best suits your needs: you could opt for a university course as well as for an ELICOS course (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students), an intensive English course, or for a VET (or professional) course.
